Key milestones to Paris
Initially planned for July 2020, the Generation Equality Forum was postponed for one year due to the pandemic, whose consequences on gender inequality highlighted the urgency of bringing the various stakeholders together to achieve concrete and sustainable progress. The Forum kicked off in Mexico City from 29 to 31 March 2021 and culminated in Paris from 30 June to 2 July 2021. A look back at the year 2020-2021.

Announcement of the postponement of the Generation Equality Forum
Due to the global pandemic, the organizers of the Generation Equality Forum decided to postpone the Forum until the summer of 2021. The Covid-19 crisis has highlighted the urgency of a global gathering for gender equality and women's rights.
15 September-1 October 2020
75th UN General Assembly
The 75th General Assembly of the United Nations provided an opportunity to put the Generation Equality Forum on the international agenda. A high-level event was organized on 1 October 2020 to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the UN Conference on Women in Beijing. French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the Generation Equality Forum will be held in Paris in June 2021.
September 2020-May 2021
From September 2020 onwards, consultation exercises were organized by the stakeholders of the Generation Equality Forum to enable as many people as possible to join and get involved in the Generation Equality campaign. Guided discussions bring together around 100 stakeholders per session, from all over the world, committed to gender equality on cross-thematic issues. Their aim is to make concrete recommendations on the design and programming of the Generation Equality Forum and to disseminate best practices in support of gender equality.

Paris Peace Forum
The Generation Equality Forum was an official partner of the Paris Peace Forum and was selected as one of the 100 "Solutions for Peace".
Launch of the Public Conversation Platform
As part of the consultation exercises, the organizers of the Generation Equality Forum launched an online platform to organize public conversations. The platform is open to the general public and the conversation is centred around the themes of the Action Coalitions and creating a global dialogue on gender equality.

Global Sports Week in Paris
The Generation Equality Forum was a partner of the Global Sports Week in Paris. The GSW is an annual event where global sports leaders, cultural influencers, change-makers, athletes and activists gather to shape the future of sports.
Announcement of the newest Champions of the Action Coalitions
New Champions of the Action Coalitions were announced, including leaders from the private sector and youth-led organizations.

International Women's Day
In a joint statement, French President Emmanuel Macron and UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngucka announced the dates of the Generation Equality Forum in Paris, which will take place from 30 June to 2 July 2021. The Champions of the Action Coalitions revealed the key actions that will make up their roadmap.

65th Commission on the Status of Women
During the 65th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, many events were organized on the Generation Equality Forum, its challenges, its unique governance format, its Multi-Stakeholder Action Coalitions and its intergenerational approach to gender equality.

Forum in Mexico City
The Generation Equality Forum was held in Mexico City from 29-31 March 2021 to present the first roadmaps of the Global Acceleration Plan for Gender Equality and its coalitions. A call to action and to become a Commitment Maker was made towards the Generation Equality Forum in Paris.

Forum in Paris
The Generation Equality Forum culminated in Paris in a hybrid format. On 30 June, an opening ceremony held at the Carrousel du Louvre brought together heads of state and government, leaders of international organizations, civil society and youth organizations, and CEOs of corporations and philanthropic foundations around French President Emmanuel Macron. $40 billion was raised, the largest amount ever collected to finance gender equality. The Global Acceleration Plan for Gender Equality was launched and over 1,000 commitments were revealed. During the three days of the Forum, 110 events were organized on a dedicated digital platform, involving over 600 personalities. More than 50,000 people virtually attended.
Mobilization in France in advance of the Paris Forum

France organized a digital event, #OurGenerationEquality, to celebrate the original opening date of the Generation Equality Forum in Paris on 7 July 2020. Thirty leading figures from a wide range of fields took stock of the impact of the Covid-19 crisis on women's rights, paid tribute to the women on the frontline of the fight against the pandemic, and called for continued mobilization in advance of the Generation Equality Forum.

Series of online thematic events #OurGenerationEquality
The Secretariat of the Generation Equality Forum in France launched a series of online thematic events, #OurGenerationEquality, dedicated to the six Action Coalitions of the Generation Equality Forum and the monitoring mechanism of the Women, Peace and Security and Humanitarian Action Agenda. These events mobilized the ecosystem of stakeholders committed to gender equality in France, with the participation of more than 30 speakers representing governments, international organizations, civil society and the private sector, as well as female experts.

The Grand Tour #OurGenerationEquality
Ahead of the Generation Equality Forum, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry for Gender Equality, Diversity and Equal Opportunities worked with the Open Diplomacy Institute to organize The Grand Tour #OurGenerationEquality: 14 consultative conferences will be organized in higher education institutions throughout France and in the French Overseas Territories to mobilize local stakeholders and enable citizens to contribute to French feminist diplomacy.

Generation Equality Voices Festival
UN Women in France is organizing the second edition of the Generation Equality Voices Festival. This festival of civic engagement aims to highlight initiatives undertaken by civil society in support of gender equality and women's rights.
